Tisch³ by Constantin Eich and Paul Tischer is a semester project that rethinks how furniture can respond to the realities of modern living. The starting point was a simple observation: many households own an oversized dining table that dominates the room yet sits unused for most of the day. At the same time, living spaces are shrinking — shared apartments and smaller homes leave little room for furniture that serves only one purpose.

The response was a modular system of components that can be reconfigured by hand, without tools, into three distinct pieces of furniture. A plug-and-screw mechanism makes the process straightforward enough to be done alone, and the transitions between configurations take only minutes.

In its first configuration, the elements form a round dining table at standard height of 750 mm. The one-meter diameter top is generous enough to seat a group comfortably and naturally draws people together — whether for a meal or an evening of games. In its second, the same components become a bench at 450 mm, the standard seating height, offering additional seating beside a sofa when friends come over. In its third, the furniture settles into a low coffee table, serving as an everyday surface for the living room.

The system was initially built from 18 mm multiplex board. In practice, the repeated reconfiguration left visible wear on the material — which led to the decision to laminate all surfaces with Fenix, a high-pressure laminate known for its matte finish and exceptional resistance to scratches, moisture, and fingerprints. The upgrade was not cosmetic. It was a direct response to how the object is actually used.

Tisch³ does not ask its user to adapt to the furniture. It adapts to them.
